The Transformation They Couldn’t Ignore: Go Behind the Scenes of Paul’s Promise

Go behind the film to discover the story, faith, and real-life inspiration that brought ‘Paul’s Promise’ to the screen.

What happens when a man who once described himself as a racist and a bigot has a radical change of heart?

For Paul Holderfield Sr., the answer was bigger than his own story.

Paul’s Promise tells the true story of a firefighter who became a pastor and went on to build a ministry that is still impacting lives today. But at the center of that story is something even more powerful: a life so completely changed that the people around him couldn’t help but notice.

In the film, Paul’s transformation isn’t portrayed as a gradual shift. His son describes it as an “Apostle Paul type conversion”—one day he was the old Paul, and the next day, he was a new man.

And that transformation had a ripple effect.

Paul eventually led 25 fellow firefighters to Jesus. Why? Because they didn’t just hear him talk about a changed life.

They lived alongside it.

As his son, Paul Holderfield Jr., explains in this exclusive behind-the-scenes video, Paul often repeated a saying that captures the heart of his story:

“Bub, a sermon heard is soon forgotten, but a sermon seen is never forgotten.”

The Story Behind the Story

In this exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Paul’s Promise, the cast and filmmakers talk about Paul’s transformation, his unlikely ministry, the power of his mother’s prayers, and the impact his faith had on an entire community.

Paul’s Promise is more than the story of a firefighter who became a pastor.

It’s a story about what can happen when a life is genuinely changed—and what happens when that change becomes impossible for others to ignore.
