As audiences continue to seek out stories rooted in hope, meaning, and redemption, box office trends are underscoring a powerful truth for Hollywood: viewers still show up for films built on positive values. That demand is precisely what EKKL is designed to meet.
According to an annual analysis released earlier this year by Movieguide, titles featuring strong Christian, biblical, moral, or redemptive themes dominated both the Top 10 and Top 25 highest-grossing films of 2024, outperforming movies driven by graphic violence, explicit sexuality, or anti-biblical worldviews.
Movieguide reported that 80% of the Top 10 domestic box office films in 2024 contained strong or very strong faith and moral content. Only one of those titles was rated R, while half were rated PG and 40% were PG-13. Seventy percent earned acceptable viewership ratings from the organization, and all received three or four stars for overall quality.
That pattern held across the broader Top 25 list, where 84% of films contained strong or very strong Christian, redemptive, biblical, or moral content. Financial results revealed an even starker contrast. Films categorized as having very strong Christian or redemptive themes averaged $269.47 million at the domestic box office among Top 25 earners, while films with very strong non-Christian or anti-Christian themes averaged just $22.68 million, a difference of more than 1,000%, according to Movieguide.
Additional viewing data reinforced those conclusions. Films with no foul language generated the highest average revenue among the Top 25, while 75% of the list contained no smoking or illegal drug references. Movies featuring light action or comic violence also outperformed films with strong or graphic violence, which accounted for just 20% of the Top 25.
Taken together, the findings point to a clear audience preference for stories centered on hope, justice, heroism, and redemption — particularly those families can watch together. Despite rising ticket prices and shifting viewing habits, Movieguide noted that demand for uplifting entertainment remains strong, with viewers gravitating toward narratives where “good conquers evil, truth vanquishes falsehood, and beauty overcomes darkness.”
For EKKL Entertainment, those preferences are not a trend to chase but a mission already in motion.
EKKL is dedicated to curating stories that remind audiences who they are, what they believe, and why they belong, offering high-quality, audience-friendly entertainment designed to be shared across generations. Through its app, EKKL delivers films and series that engage the heart without compromising values, and through Connect by EKKL, it invites viewers to go deeper.
Connect by EKKL functions as the platform’s storytelling engine and community voice, bridging entertainment and eternal truth. The hub brings together articles, podcasts, interviews, devotionals, live events, and behind-the-scenes access — all designed to connect viewers more personally to the stories they’re watching and guide them back to meaningful experiences on the EKKL app.
That connection is reflected in EKKL’s growing slate, which includes titles like “The Case for Christ,” “She Dances,” and “Light of the World,” projects rooted in faith, resilience, and personal transformation. While EKKL does not shy away from difficult themes, it approaches them through a lens that affirms family, faith, and hope.
As Movieguide’s data continues to highlight sustained demand for values-driven storytelling, EKKL offers a stable destination for families and faith-minded viewers searching for content that uplifts without compromising quality. Through the app, and through Connect by EKKL, audiences are invited not just to watch, but to belong.
