Chris Pratt’s Teenage Son Asked His Mom to Accept Jesus. What Happened Next Is Pretty Remarkable
The 14-year-old son of Chris Pratt and Anna Faris is developing his own faith—and having surprisingly deep conversations about Jesus with a mom who didn’t grow up religious.
Jack Pratt is growing up with two parents who have taken very different paths when it comes to faith.
His dad, actor Chris Pratt, has been outspoken about his Christian faith for years. His mom, actress Anna Faris, has said she wasn’t raised religious.
Now their 14-year-old son is developing convictions of his own—and he’s comfortable enough in his faith to share them with his mom, including asking her to accept Jesus Christ as her Savior.
Faris, who shares Jack with her ex-husband Pratt, recently opened up about the conversations she’s having with her son.
“I didn’t grow up with religion,” Faris explained. “He’s asked me to accept Jesus Christ … I told him that I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s still going to take a whole lot of long conversations.”
And what’s remarkable isn’t simply that Jack is talking to his mom about Jesus. It’s what happens when she pushes back.
According to Faris, she doesn’t simply nod along with everything Jack believes. She challenges him, asks questions and encourages him to think through his convictions. And somehow, those conversations seem to have brought them closer to understanding one another.
In fact, Faris says she’s impressed by the way Jack handles it.
She described Jack as “solid as a tugboat” emotionally, saying he doesn’t get easily rattled and handles difficult situations well. She also called him impressive for being willing to examine his beliefs.
Their conversations aren’t always simple. Faris has challenged Jack on issues including pro-life beliefs and has even asked what he thinks about pastors she believes are exploiting religion. His responses have shown her that he’s not simply accepting everything he’s been taught. He’s thinking through his faith for himself.
And perhaps that’s the most compelling part of Jack’s story.
He’s growing up with a father who has been very open about his Christian faith, but he’s also beginning to develop a faith of his own. And rather than keeping those beliefs to himself, he’s comfortable enough in them to talk about Jesus with his mom—even when he knows she may challenge him.
At the end of the day, Jack is learning how to articulate what he believes—and how to live out his faith with both conviction and thoughtfulness.
And his mom, even when she doesn’t agree, is listening.
